 Welcome to the Arcana Dea Design Blog!

Arcana Dea Design is a one-woman, hand-crafted jewelry and gift item business, run by me, Nathalie Thompson.  I work out of my Ottawa studio to create unique designs with sterling silver, gemstones, glass and crystal; if it’s shiny and sparkly, I pretty much automatically love to work with it!

 What, exactly, does “Arcana Dea” mean?

Arcana Dea is Latin for “Goddess of Hidden Mysteries” and my designs are accordingly inspired by the ever-changing, unpredictable natural world and by the “hidden mysteries” of spiritual belief systems from around the world. Though not a practitioner of most of these systems, I am fascinated by the mystical, metaphysical and spiritual practices of different cultures and find the study of them gives me great ideas for beautiful jewelry designs and things to write about. In addition to that, I love sharing what I’ve learned about running a business. So, you’ll find articles on all sorts of interesting stuff in these blog pages… :-)

 

A note about the Hope Collection…

Arcana Dea Design donates partial proceeds from the sale of all items to charities supporting mental health awareness and colon cancer awareness. I do this for my father, who is currently fighting stage 4 metastatic colon cancer, and also in honour of someone close to me, whom we lost to suicide in 2011.

When I started Hope Collection line, I was originally donating partial proceeds from the sale of items within that particular line (and only that line). In February 2012, I made some major changes to this initiative and am now donating partial proceeds from the sale of any and all items to these charities.
